About Dr. Ellis
PSYCHOLOGIST AND PERSONAL COACH. Dr. Ellis is a clinical psychologist with a license in California. He received his Ph.D. degree in clinical-community psychology from North Carolina State University. He was a post-doctoral fellow in clinical child psychology at the University of North Carolina/Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC. He worked as a clinical psychologist at the Child Guidance Clinic of Forsyth County in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and he was clinical director of the clinic's therapeutic preschool program. He headed up child and youth services and psychology services at the Rockingham County Mental Health Center. He returned to his native California and worked for two years at a large HMO before opening his private practice in 1986. He has worked as a consultant in group homes for troubled youth, homes for the mentally retarded, and day programs for Alzheimer's patients, the elderly, and the neurologically challenged. He has also worked as a psychologist in skilled nursing facilities. In recent years Dr. Ellis has received training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and Energy Psychology methods such as EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques). In his practice he now emphasizes the use of these methods, especially EFT, because he has found them very effective in helping with a wide range of emotional and psychological issues. Dr.Ellis received his training in personal coaching from Jeffry Auerbach, Ph.D., of the College of Executive Coaching.
WILDERNESS GUIDE. Dr. Ellis has studied ecopsychology for the past 12 years. He has extensive experience in the Sierra Nevada, Western Great Basin, Utah Canyonlands and California deserts. He studied ecopsychology and the vision quest with Stephen Foster and Meredith Little at the School of Lost Borders. In Peru he learned about Andean mysticism and shamanism from Alan Leon and the shamans and priestesses of the Andes. He learned about shamanism from Fred Tejien, John Perkins, and Michael Harner. He studied ritual healing with Malidoma and Sobonfu Some'of the Dagara tribe of West Africa. He also learned from the spirits in the wilderness in the mountains and deserts of California. |

My mission is to do the best job possible in the three areas of my calling: clinical psychologist, personal coach, and wilderness guide. My intent is to help people become their true selves, be as healthy as possible, realize their full potential, and live sustainable lifestyles that are healthy for the Earth. My vision is to make a better world by helping people reach their maximum health and wholeness and achieve goals true to their life path and the health of our planet.
